Chas Charles-Dunne
Chas Charles-Dunne is descended from Peter Whannell, alias Buchanan, who matriculated arms with Lord Lyon in 1778 (Lyon Register Vol.1, 2496), 7 years before the repeal of the Act of Proscription).
Peter’s arms are described in Sir James Balfour Paul’s Ordinary of Scottish Arms, item 4052 (page 273 of the attached 1903 edition).
Peter Whannell’s arms are Buchanan. This is the transcript of the matriculation:
“Peter Whannell alias Buchanan Esquire of the County of Ayr descended in the male line from the ancient Family of Buchanan of Buchanan, Chief of the Name, BEARS Or a Lion rampant Sable armed and langued Gules between three Crescents of the last all within the Royal Tressure of the second. CREST a Dove with an Olive branch in its Beak Proper Motto Nuntius pacis. Matriculated on the 8th of August 1778. ”
So, we include Chas’s arms here, as a stated descendent of Peter Whannell, alias Buchanan. This is an example of assumed arms (India, Spring - 2002) and is not registered with Lyon Court.

The crest alludes to the armiger's land of birth, his career, affiliations and aspirations.
Fleur-de-lys - I was a member of the Scout Association from age 8 - Wolfcub (Bronze, Silver and Gold Arrows, Leaping Wolf); Boy Scout (2nd Class, 1st Class, Senior Scout, Patrol Leader, Bushman's Thong); Pfadfinder (in Germany); Queen's Scout; Assistant Scout Leader; Scout Leader; Group Scout Leader.
Maple Leaves - My formative years in Canada.
Thunderbolts - Traditional symbol for electricity. I am a Qualified Electrician.
Indian 24 spoke Wheel of Life - The symbol of India, the land of my birth and where my ancestors lived for almost 400 years.
Royal Air Force roundel Proper - 12 years service in the RAF. I saw active service in Northern Ireland and on Falkland Island during the war.
The Griffin - A mythical beast, in Bleu Celeste for my Air Force career.
