This coat of arms reflects more of the early Leny history and symbolism, being the ‘Leny’ bears. I have to admit that I always assumed the bears heads in our family’s historic arms from 1810 were actually boar heads as it is unusual to see clans with bear symbols as bears became extinct over a thousand and five hundred years ago. The fact they are in our arms, reflects on the long history of the family in the Leny area, next to Callander.

Rory’s arms also contains a new motto, based on the old latin one, being “The Power of Short Swords”. This, like the Buchanan of Arnprior pennon, reflects the importance of small Scottish swords to our particular ancient Buchanan/Leny pictish family line. Rory chose it to be in English so it would be more easily understood.
