Join the Chief of Buchanan to Walk the marches

The Walking of the Marches is a tradition that is probably as old as Stirling, dating back to the days before accurate maps when it was necessary to check the burgh boundaries to ensure that no encroachment had taken place.

Carrying picks and shovels, the Birlawmen check boundary points. Resplendent in their blue bonnets, the Captain takes reports from from the Birlawmen that the Marches are intact and have been marked, by the turning of turfs.

The Walking of the Marches is a free event and open to all. It takes place on the last Saturday in May starting at 11am at the rotunda at the foot of King Street in the heart of the city centre. Please join us if you can.

Wear your Tartan and a blue cap if you have one and join John Michael Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan of that Ilk, Chief of the Name and Arms of Buchanan, Rory Baillie-Hamilton Buchanan and Jim & Karen Buchanan (President Clan Buchanan International Association), Banner Bearer.

Alongside Clans Grant, McEwen, Carruthers, Hunter, Irving and Urquhart Clan Chiefs to be sworn in as Marshals 

This will be followed by refreshments in the Church which is payable on entry.
