CBSI SCOTTISH CULTURE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to our 2026 winners of the Clan Buchanan Society International Scottish Scholarship!

Because of no scholarships being awarded for three years, the CBSI Executive Council agreed to award TWO scholarships in 2026.  Our two winners were both so compelling and deserving that we did not want to exclude either of them.  So, thank you to the CBSI Board for allowing this special, one-time only action!

Our first winner is Alyssa Watkins, a female heavy events athlete who plans to attend Highland Games in Scotland later this year.  Alyssa’s project, Carrying Clan Buchanan to the World Stage: A Professional Women’s Highland Games Journey in Scotland is an exciting opportunity for her to compete internationally, explore Buchanan lands and other sites in Scotland during her visit, and then share those experiences with us all.  We are very happy and honored to sponsor Alyssa’s journey!  You can read more about Alyssa and her goal in the April Banner

Our second winner is Jordyn Burling, a 14-year-old bagpiper who plans to attend a weeklong camp this summer to further his education.  Jordyn’s project is to attend the North American Academy of Bagpiping & Drumming Summer Camp. Jordyn is proud of his Scottish ancestry.  He looks forward to a lifelong opportunity to represent Clan Buchanan by advancing his bagpipe knowledge.  His desire is to further share his love of the Scottish music & cultural traditions with others to help promote awareness and membership to the Clan.

The second scholarship awarded to Annie Buchanan (May 2022)

The CBSI Scholarship Committee is delighted to announce the Round 2 Scholarship for 2022 has been awarded to Annie Buchanan from Texas, USA. Annie submitted a very well prepared application with the title Highland Games - Top 15 in 2022.

Annie is currently ranked 21st in the Light Weight Women category. Annie’s goal is to reach the rank of 15 by the end of the 2022 season.

To achieve this goal Annie has sought a scholarship to enable her to secure individual coaching from a Masters' Worlds competitor, Jack Coleman, a fellow Clan Buchanan member.

The first scholarship was awarded to Emma Buchanan – March 2022

The CBSI Scholarship Committee is very pleased to announce the successful applicant for the first Scholarship is Emma Buchanan from Adelaide, Australia. Emma’s project, the Buchanan Family Banner, involves the making of three banners to replace a very old and much-loved banner that had been made by her great-grandmother but had recently been destroyed in Scotland.

It is hoped that the production of this Buchanan Family Banner may prompt others to make a unique banner that depicts the inter-clan relationship or some other personal aspect of their family.
